INARA Court: Application to rezone Cuts the Mustard

On June 28, 2016, the Town of Carrboro met for a Public Hearing on Conditional Rezoning for Inara Court at 102 and 104 Fidelity Street. The Town received the application to rezone 102 and 104 Fidelity Street to R-2-Conditional (R-2-CZ) for the construction of six single-family residential units. Prior to reaching a decision, the Board of Aldermen had to hold a public hearing to receive input on the rezoning request. The board voted in favor of the re-zoning.

Alderman, Bethany Chaney, thanked Paul for "...thinking creatively about how to use this piece of property and how to create the kind of mechanisms that we need to encourage diverse housing." She noted that small-scale home ownership projects or density-bonus opportunities don't encourage innovative development and affordability. She warned that Carrboro should be concerned about what could potentially be built by right in an area like this (i.e. gigantic houses, super higher-density). She voiced her appreciation for Paul setting a standard of thinking about how to use the property and for reaching out to the surrounding neighborhood to gather input in order to offer "...a solution that, in fact, doesn't maximize this piece of property in the way [he] could, but rather tries to strike a balance between multiple objectives..."
