We are very fortunate to be able to offer our clients custom homes in downtown Hillsborough. There are eleven lots ranging from 0.25-0.4 acres in size, featuring old oak trees and historic stone walls.
The warm, modern style seen here in the renderings will be consistent throughout this project.

Inara Court was a few years in the making. The site fronts Fidelity Street with marvelous walkability to the Carrboro Farmer's Market, coffee shops, O2 Fitness, Weaver Street Market, and restaurants in Downtown Carrboro.
The neighborhood was designed to maximize passive solar characteristics funneling loads of natural light into each home's living area. The northern exposure of each house features glass blocks for additional light. Each home forms the courtyard wall for the home behind it, using the yards to create an extension of the private living areas.
The foyer of each home provides plenty of storage for shoes, coats, umbrellas, etc., allowing easy access to items upon entering and exiting the front door, which opens out onto a sidewalk.
For those of you who are wondering...yes, Inara is a nod to Firefly, the TV show.
This site benefited from an infill location only blocks away from downtown Durham. Though, creating the building lot for this house was challenging because of the topography, narrow lot lines, a significant creek, and a drainage easement. Working with Ryan Edwards at Filter Design, we constructed a house that is graceful and efficient while meeting the complex requirements of the location.
This urban infill, walkable site informs the overall design concept of this home, which serves as the model unit for Inara Court. It is constructed with Hebel block, an aerated autoclave concrete, that is energy efficient, self-insulating, pest proof, fire proof, very durable and low maintenance. This product has been used in Europe for the better part of the last century.
Deep inset windows along long hallways, volume ceilings, cleanly interpreted rooms, and a sunken living room with sliding glass doors to the yard area all create an open and inviting feel to the space. Easy maintenance and plentiful storage make for convenient day to day living.

This house will be placed on the market upon completion. Until then we are guarding it like a dragon on a gold heap.

The wooden wrap on the Poplar House is a beautiful cedar which also covers the ceiling of the front porch and walkway.
This LEED Silver design was based on an efficient 1930's floor plan, and refashioned for the Mid-Century Modern enthusiast. The house stands tall on a hilltop realizing the lovely view overlooking the Bolin Creek area. Exterior design and landscaping plans maximize utility and privacy of a modest backyard. Its interior is simply beautiful, with a nod to Danish Mid-Century modern, evidenced by a clean monkey pod bar top and thick wooden stair treads.

The sister house to Greene Street I, this structure leans more modern, using warm and playful design elements to elevate its substance. The open kitchen, dining and living space is characterized by a beautiful charcoal-grey concrete floor. Some cheery facets include a walnut veneer wall in the dining space, a sitting nook by the front door, look-throughs from the stairwell to the living area, and tiki-themed tile in the downstairs bathroom. The master bedroom boasts a vaulted ceiling with clerestory windows.
